According to a new report from the National Council of Nonprofits, State Budget Crises: Ripping the Safety Net
Held by Nonprofits, state and local governments are slashing funds for programs nonprofits expect to administer;
government agencies are withholding contract payments for services already delivered; and governments are draining
operating funds from nonprofits through the imposition of new fees and taxes. To address these issues, the report
urges government, foundation, and nonprofit leaders to work together to meet the needs of the people they jointly serve.

In many ways the Washington Women’s Foundation is the "grandmother"
of Impact-like organizations. Its handbook, Something Ventured: An Innovative
Model in Philanthropy, is a good resource if you're considering starting a
women’s giving circle.
The Women's Funding Network
This group serves as a global champion for investment in women and provides member funds
with ongoing access, training, tools and support to help them increase their investment,
influence and impact. We unite ideas, knowledge money and action to create lasting social
change for women and girls, their families and communities.
General Online Resources
Guidestar has financial reports and Form 990s for
many charities. It’s a good place to begin your research.
The Better Business Bureau has a national website
that provides reports on national charities. These reports rate the charities
against the BBB’s charity standards. Charity Navigator is considered
a premier independent charity evaluator. It evaluates more than 2,900
national charities and includes reports on their financial health. Sections
on methodology and tips are valuable.
IRS — Charitable Organizations
is the IRS online version of Publication 78, a cumulative list of organizations
that are eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions. This
simply lets you confirm that an organization has been designated "tax
exempt" by the IRS.
The Foundation Center has information for both grant
seekers and grant makers. In the world of grants, The Foundation Center is
considered the ultimate source. In Philadelphia, we are lucky to have a Foundation
Center office located in the Free Library.
Delaware Valley Grantmakers is a regional resource for
networking, news and information on grantmaking and philanthropy in the greater
Philadelphia and neighboring regions.
